Amarillo Sky (Westerner) Win The Class 2 Paddy Power Handicap Chase At Cheltenham

Son Of Westerner Delivers On Return At Cheltenham

Amarillo Sky (6g Westerner - Bag Of Tricks, by Flemensfirth) made a smart start to the season when making all to win the Class 2 Paddy Power Handicap Chase at Cheltenham on Friday.

Twice a winner over fences as a novice, the Joe Tizzard-trained bay finished a fine fifth in the Grade 3 Grand Annual Chase over course and distance at the Festival. Reunited with Brendan Powell on his first start since April, he was ridden from two out and kept on well when joined at the last. Digging deep, he prevailed by a length and a half on the line.

“I fancied him coming into it,” Tizzard said after the race. “We'll go to Newbury in a couple of weeks if he comes out of the race alright. He's a nice young progressive horse.”

Amarillo Sky is owned by JP Romans and was bought for £280,000 after winning first time out for Colin Bowe at Borris House. The son of Westerner was bred by Mrs Amy Collins out of a full-sister to talented chaser Ashtown Lad (Flemensfirth).
