Son Of Zoffany Thrills Connections With Grade 2 Success

Oscar Dominguez (6g Zoffany - American Queen, by Fairy King) delighted connections with Grade 2 success in Sunday’s Hollywood Turf Cup Stakes at Del Mar.

Graded-placed twice this summer, the Richard Baltas-trained chesnut stepped back up in trip to a mile and a half on his latest start. Racing last of ten for much of the way, he came four wide in the straight and ran on well to win by a neck from United (Giant’s Causeway), who was runner-up in the Breeders’ Cup Turf last time out.

Baltas was thrilled with his charge’s performance, later commenting, “This means a lot. We claimed the horse for $40,000, and he's been overachieving the whole time we've had him.”

Bred by Whisperview Trading Ltd, Oscar Dominguez moved to the US after winning as a juvenile for Aidan O’Brien and is now owned by Nancy Messineo and Bruce Sands.
