Souper Hoity Toity (Uncle Mo) Wins Gr 3 Selene Stakes at Woodbine

Souper Hoity Toity 80th Stakes Winner for Uncle Mo

It was a first stakes victory for Souper Hoity Toity (3f Uncle Mo x Town Tour, by Speightstown) on Saturday when the filly won the Grade III Selene Stakes by three quarters of a length at Woodbine.

Making her 2022 debut in the 1 1/16-mile Tapeta race, Souper Hoity Toity raced six wide into the first turn to place herself just behind the leaders. That quickly turned into racing just behind the pacesetter with the rest of the field bunched up behind her.

The Mark Casse trainee stepped up her run as they entered the stretch and took over the lead with just a furlong left. She was never asked to give her whole and held off the second placed runner with plenty left in the tank.

The victory was her third in five career starts with Souper Hoity Toity ending 2021 when just off the board in the Grade III Mazarine Stakes.

A $550,000 2-year-old purchase by Live Oak Plantation from Pike Racing’s OBS March consignment, the Dr. Richard Holder and Coolmore-bred Souper Hoity Toity is out of a winning half-sister to dual Grade I winner Moonshine Memories and stakes winner Indian Evening. Souper Hoity Toity is also a three-quarter sister to the stakes-placed Mo For The Money.

A loaded family from top to bottom, under Souper Hoity Toity’s third dam is Uncle Mo’s four-time Grade I winning studmate Tiz The Law, Horse of the Year Favorite Trick, and Tale of the Cat’s multiple graded stakes winner Favorite Tale.

Town Tour also had a full sister to this stakes winner now named Mo Town Mayhem in 2020, who sold for $350,000 at this year’s Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds In Training Sale.

A top sire year after year, Uncle Mo is the sire of 44 worldwide graded stakes winners, 80 stakes winners, and 147 stakes performers from his first seven crops. That group is led by 11 Grade I winners.
