South African Group One for Rock of Gibraltar
Already a Group I winner in South Africa last season at two, high class Australian bred filly Alboran Sea (3f Rock of Bibraltar x Lady's Light, by Toolighttoquit) stepped it up a notch to beat the older sprinters in the Group I Cape Flying Championship at Kenilworth in South Africa on Saturday, her half-brother entered for Inglis Easter. The Mike de Kock trained daughter of Rock of Gibraltar proved her brilliance in the 1000 metre weight-for-age sprint scoring by a head in 56.53 seconds. Bred and offered for sale by Rosemont Stud, Alboran Sea was a $105,000 Inglis Premier purchase for Form Bloodstock and has won four of eight starts. She is a sibling to stakes-placed Trafalgar Legacy and Light Express being the fifth winner from five to race from Lady’s Light (USA), who was bought by Rosemont for $20,000 at the 2011 Inglis Broodmare Sale when carrying Alboran Sea. Alboran Sea is one of 98 stakes-winners worldwide for Rock of Gibraltar, who has tasted success in nearly every corner of the globe.
