Speedy Son Of Calyx Gains Deserved Maiden Win

Moonstone Bay (3g Calyx – Star Fire, by Dark Angel) became the latest first crop winner by Calyx when gaining a deserved success at Southwell on Tuesday.

Iain Jardine’s charge was sent off joint-favourite for the five furlong novice stakes, having placed on all of his previous starts. The bay led after the first furlong and was ridden two furlongs from home. He kept on well under Paul Mulrennan to win by a length and three quarters.

“That was very straightforward,” Mulrennan commented. “Moonstone Bay has been knocking on the door and deserved to win. He's got a lot of speed.”

Moonstone Bay was bred by GCE Farm and is a half-brother to maiden winner Gemini Star (Starspangledbanner).
