St Mark’s Basilica Well-Represented In Orby Catalogue

Following on from an impressive start in Japan and strong demand at Arqana, St Mark’s Basilica’s first yearlings are expected to shine at next week’s Orby Sale at Goffs.

Catalogued lots hail from top consignors, from Ballylinch Stud and Baroda Stud, to Pier House Stud and Tally-Ho Stud, Norelands and The Castlebridge Consignment.

Possible highlights include:

  • Lot 37: A filly out of dual Stakes winner Wind Chimes, who twice placed at Group 1 level
  • Lot 67: A half-brother to four-time Group winner Free Wind, out of the multiple Stakes-placed mare Alive Alive Oh
  • Lot 108: A half-brother to two Group winners and to Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes third Oodnadatta, out of multiple Group winner Bewitched
  • Lot 187: Now a half-sister to two Group 1 winners in Irish Derby victor Sovereign and recent Futurity Trophy winner Jan Brueghel
  • Lot 321: Half-brother to Irish 1000 Guineas Trial heroine Who’s Steph and Group 2 performer Long Arm

A number of St Mark’s Basilica’s first yearlings have sold for six-figure sums, the highest of which was Ecurie des Monceaux’s filly out of Prudenzia. The half-sister to Chicquita (Montjeu) and Magic Wand (Galileo) sold to MV Magnier for a sales-topping €1.7million at Arqana.

Impressive sales results continue from last year’s foal sales, where his first crop sold for up to 575,000gns. The son of Siyouni himself fetched 1.3million guineas as a yearling and rewarded connections with five Group 1 wins. The achievements earned himself the title of world champion three-year-old, European champion two-year-old and Cartier Horse Of The Year.
