Stakes Aim For Unbeaten Ten Sovereigns Filly

Queen Of Zafeen (3f Ten Sovereigns – Grand Zafeen, by Zafeen) confirmed her class when easily making it two from two at Lingfield on Thursday.

The Richard Hughes-trained filly struck late for a debut win last month and remained over seven furlongs on her second start. Racing prominently under Finley Marsh, she improved to lead before the final furlong and drew clear to score by three lengths and three quarters.

“I'm very lucky to sit on a horse like her, it's not very often you find them,” the winning rider later said. “It felt to me like she only hit full stride crossing the line and I think she'll be a miler.”

Richard Hughes later mentioned the Listed Spring Cup as a possible target for the Jaber Abdullah-owned winner. Bred by Fergus Cousins, she was bought by Hughes as a yearling for £110,000. She hails from the first crop of Ten Sovereigns, who was responsible for 11 black-type two-year-olds last season.
