Stand Up Comic Second Stakes Winner of Week for Practical Joke
For the second time in three days Practical Joke registered a new stakes winner when Stand Up Comic (2f Practical Joke x Boleyn, by Proud Citizen) won the Parx Futurity on Wednesday.
The seven furlong dirt race started with Stand Up Comic settling in fourth as Collin’s Grey Lady opened up a few lengths on the field. Stand Up Comic raced in company on the rail until the final quarter when she started to make her move. Coming up Collin’s Grey Lady outside, she engaged that one in a brief duel before all but ending the race in style under Frankie Pennington.
Stand Up Comic spent the stretch pulling away to win by four lengths with the third placed runner 6 ½ lengths behind and everyone from fifth on at least 14 lengths adrift at the line.
The sixth stakes winner for Practical Joke, Stand Up Comic has won three of her five starts this year and was also fourth in the Listed Bolton Landing Stakes at Saratoga this summer.
Bred by Eico Ventures, the filly is prepared by Robert Reid, Jr. for Cash Is King and LC Racing.
Out of Grade II-placed Boleyn, Stand Up Comic is one of three stakes performers for her dam alongside stakes winner Hi Holiday and stakes-placed Dr B. The filly’s third dam is Grade I winner Magnificent Lindy and each of her first four dams are either stakes performers or stakes producers.
Six stakes winners ties Practical Joke with Gun Runner for the most stakes winners in the freshman crop with his seven blacktype performers putting him behind studmate Caravaggio and the aforementioned Gun Runner.
