Starspangledbanner Filly Provides Landmark Win For Connections
Brookside Banner (2f Starspangledbanner - Akrivi, by Tobougg) defied inexperience to win the six furlong novice stakes at Haydock on Friday, and thus became a 500th winner for the team of trainer Tom Dascombe and jockey Richard Kingscote.
The chesnut filly missed the break, but made good headway as they approached the three furlong pole and led a furlong from home. Running on well, she won by a length, as fellow newcomer Whatabird finished strongly to take second.
Brookside Banner was bred by Stilvi Compania Financiera and was sold by Haras d’Etreham to Sackville Donald for €75,000. Now owned by Seamus Burns, she boasts a fine pedigree, being a half-sister to the multiple Group-placed Grecian Light, while their dam is a half-sister to Dutch Art.
