Starspangledbanner Supplies Highest-Priced Colt At Tattersalls

Starspangledbanner continued a fantastic year for Maywood Stud when selling to MV Magnier for 450,000gns at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale.

The bay colt was widely expected to hit headlines like his half-brother Vandeek, whose unbeaten juvenile record includes Group 1 wins in the Middle Park Stakes and Prix Morny. After outbidding the likes of Jill Lamb and Philip Stauffenberg said, “He’s a lovely horse and in fairness to Kelly Thomas and everyone involved they’ve done a great job with him. Starspangledbanner is doing great as well and this colt is a half-brother to a very good horse.”

“We’re just glad that we can support the likes of the Thomases as it’s a good result for them,” he continued. “He’s a quality horse, a good mover and looks like he’ll be a fast, early horse type.”

A delighted Kelly Thomas of Maywood Stud later said, “He’s been a superstar all week. He’s taken everything in his stride. He’s a very relaxed character – he likes his sleep, likes his food and also likes to exercise. He’s come out fresh as a daisy every day despite what he’s had to do. He certainly looks the part, that’s for sure.”
