Starstruck Does it Again!
For the second year in a row talented mare Starstruck (5m Galileo x Agnetha, by Big Shuffle) captured the Grade III Matchmaker Stakes at Monmouth in the US.
Purchased from Ireland last year out of the stable of Dermot Weld, who also bred her, Starstruck has proven a success in the US, scoring a length and a quarter win in the 1 and 1/18th mile contest.
“They told me when they sent her from Ireland that she didn’t like soft going and until we got to Delaware the other day we didn’t get firm going,” said winning trainer Larry Jones.
“Maybe she’s just a Monmouth horse, this is two in a row for her in the Matchmaker!”
Starstruck has won four of 18 starts and runs for Calumet Farm, who will have a lovely broodmare to go on with when her racing days are done.
A winner of over $265,000 in prizemoney, Starstruck is the best of six winners from Grade III winner Agnetha.
