Step Up In Class On The Cards For Zoffany Maiden Winner

Black-type may be next on the agenda for Cecelia Clementine (2f Zoffany - Night Song, by Oasis Dream), after the Kevin Prendergast-trained filly rallied to land a competitive maiden at the Curragh.

A 16-strong field lined up for the fillies maiden over a mile and the eventual winner caught the eye three furlongs from home, as she travelled well into contention. Ridden from two furlongs out, she ran on well to deliver a challenge to Startedwithakiss (Fastnet Rock) and dug deep to score by half a length on the line.

Speaking after the race, winning rider Chris Hayes said, “She stuck at it well and I liked her attitude. Hopefully when she's back in the spring she can get some black type - races like the Blue Wind or the Salsabil Stakes could suit.”

Owned by the Wachman, Magnier and Shanahan Partnership, Cecelia Clementine was bought by her trainer as a yearling for €110,000. The daughter of Zoffany was bred by Brittas House Stud out of two-year-old winner Night Song, herself a half-sister to Group 2 winner Misheer.
