The Best Yet To Come From The Big Getaway

Willie Mullins is keen to take The Big Getaway (5g Getaway - Saddlers Dawn, by Sadler’s Hall) over hurdles after his charge ran out an impressive winner of Saturday’s bumper at Punchestown.

The bay fetched £230,000 after winning a four-year-old maiden by all of 30 lengths for Donnchadh Doyle and went on to finish second on his first two starts for Mrs J Donnelly. He was sent off favourite to be third time lucky, with Patrick Mullins settling him behind the leader for much of the two mile contest. Leading when travelling well five furlongs out, he eased clear in the straight and extended his advantage to seven lengths on the line with ease.

The winning trainer later commented, “The Big Getaway is a chaser in the making and I imagine we'll go straight on over hurdles. He's as big a horse as I've ever had. He just gallops all day and probably wants softer ground.”

Bred by Alex Heskin and John Coleman, the son of Getaway comes from a family the Mullins’s know well, in that it features the great Dawn Run.
