Well Bred Son Of Zoffany Gains Maiden Win

The well-bred Piranesi (3g Zoffany - Starship, by Galileo) built on a promising debut to gain his maiden win at Yarmouth on Tuesday.

The William Haggas-trained bay finished third at Newmarket earlier in the month and was sent off favourite on his second start over a mile. Georgia Cox rode him to make all, pushing her mount along from over a furlong out and kept on well to win by three parts of a length.

Both the time and runner-up Little Becky, herself a winner on debut, suggest that this was a smart performance by Piranesi. Bred by Des Scott, Piranesi is closely related to Group 1 Racing Post Trophy victor Rivet (Fastnet Rock), Group 3 scorer Booming Delight (Fastnet Rock) and Group 3 Gallinule Stakes winner Packing Tycoon (Danehill Dancer).

Starship has a two-year-old filly and yearling filly by Fastnet Rock.
