Well Bred Yearlings Represent Circus Maximus At Tattersalls

Top-class miler Circus Maximus will be represented by a pair of well-bred colts at next week’s Tattersalls Book 2 Sale.

Camas Park Stud consign the triple Group 1 winner’s first offering, a colt bought as a foal for 50,000gns. Catalogued as Lot 685, the February-born bay hails from the family of top-flight winners Untold, Sally Brown and Rhea Moon (Starspangledbanner).

Lot 782 from Sherbourne Lodge comes from another talented family, with her grandam being a full-sister to Group 2 May Hill Stakes second Queen Of Poland. Multiple Graded winner Whatsthescript and Cornwallis heroine Millstream feature further down the page.

Book 3 is next on the sales calendar and features a Circus Maximus half-sister to Stakes performer High Strung (Mastercraftsman). Offered by Hazelwood Bloodstock as Lot 1928, she is out of a winning half-sister to Hurricane Run.

Baroda Stud consign another well-bred Circus Maximus filly out of a half-sister to dual Group winner Curtain Call (Sadler’s Wells), from the family of Hernando and Johann Quatz. Completing Circus Maximus’ Book 3 offering is a filly from Weylands Stud, who shares her page with Generous, Imagine, Moonlight Cloud, et al.

Circus Maximus himself boasts an enviable pedigree, as a son of Galileo out of multiple Group winner Duntle, who also placed at Group 1 level on three occasions. Like his dam, Circus Maximus excelled over a mile and notched a faster time than Kingmambo in both the Group 1 St James’s Palace Stakes and Group 1 Prix du Moulin. The former victory saw him join an honour roll featuring Giant’s Causeway, Kingman and Shamardal, while the latter performance beat Classic-winning milers Romanised, Olmedo and Phoenix Of Spain.

His third and final top-flight success came in the Group 1 Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot, while notable performances in defeat included close seconds in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile and two runnings of the Group 1 Sussex Stakes

Circus Maximus’s first yearlings have been bought by the likes of Sackville Donald, Highflyer Bloodstock, Johnston Racing, Noel Meade and Peter Nolan.
