Well-related Getaway Gelding Delivers On Debut

The future looks bright for Gillespie (4g Getaway – Princess Mairead, by Blueprint), after the well-related gelding justified strong market support on debut on Thursday.

The own-brother to Grade 1 chaser The Big Breakaway (Getaway) and black-type performer Say Goodbye (Getaway) was sent off second favourite for the two mile bumper and raced prominently throughout under Nico de Boinville. Paul Nicholls’ charge led before the three furlong pole, and after being headed, rallied to regain the advantage approaching the final furlong. He kept on well to beat Fredduemissmolli (Order Of St George) by a length and three quarters, with the pair finishing six lengths clear of the third.

Owned by Owners Group 130, Gillespie was bought by his trainer with Tom Malone at the Tattersalls Ireland Derby Sale for €100,000. The Getaway gelding was bred by William Mangan out of Princess Mairead, who has a yearling colt by Santiago.
