Wertheimer et Frere Duo Impressive Winners for Uncle Mo
It was a big day for Uncle Mo with Wertheimer et Frere homebreds on Saturday after Toupie (2f Uncle Mo x Amertume, by Tapit) and Sinfiltre (4f Uncle Mo x Shared Heart, by Forestry) scored impressive victories.
Making her debut, the Graham Motion-trained Toupie had to duel early on in the five-furlong dirt race Remember Me not removing the pressure for much of the run. Toupie shook from at the top of the stretch and though she was green, happily increased her lead under William Humphrey with every stride.
Given a vigorous hand ride as they approached the line, Toupie won by eighth lengths to start her career off on a winning note.
Less than 20 minutes later at Ellis Park, it was Sinfiltre’s turn to visit the winner’s circle.
Showing the versatility of Uncle Mo runners, Sinfiltre was running over 1 1/16 miles on the turf. She settled a few lengths behind the leaders, waiting until the stretch run to make her move. The Todd Pletcher trainee was angled out in the stretch by Flavien Prat and started her run for the lead, taking command as the field approached the line.
Sinfiltre had 1 ½ lengths on the horses behind her by the time the clock stopped to earn her third win of the year.
Sinfiltre is a half-sister to Grade II winner and Grade I placed Chewing Gum and out of the stakes placed Shared Heart. Shared Heart’s half-sister is also the dam of Tale of the Cat’s stakes winner and Grade I placed Enchanting Lady and granddam of Classic Empire’s multiple stakes placed Twenty Four Mamba. She is also a granddaughter of the Grade I winner Corrazona.
Toupie is the first foal out of the Grade III placed Amertume, who is a granddaughter of Grade I winner and successful broodmare Honest Lady. The dam of Grade I winner First Defence among her four stakes winners, Honest Lady is a daughter of the great Toussaud.
Uncle Mo is the sire of 90 winners in 2023 with that group including 10 stakes winners and 19 stakes performers, led by Grade I winner A Mo Reay.
