Tiger Bay Queen (Westerner) Wins The Listed Mares Bumper At Fairyhouse

Westerner Mare A Class Above In Listed Bumper

Tiger Bay Queen (5m Westerner - Tiger Bay Lady, by Flemensfirth) showed her class when running out an easy winner of the Listed Mares’ Bumper at Fairyhouse on Saturday.

The daughter of Westerner was evidently held in high regard by Peter Fahey, as he pitched her against geldings on debut on the Thyestes Chase undercard. Runner-up that day last year, she was ridden patiently by Jamie Codd on return and travelled strongly throughout. Last of the field approaching the turn for home, she was ridden to lead approaching the final furlong and soon drew clear, going on to score by seven lengths.

Speaking after the race, the winning trainer revealed, “I thought an awful lot of her when we ran her at Gowran on Thyestes Chase day and came home disappointed that she didn’t win. We gave her time off and started her back in a schooling hurdle at Tipperary last October, which she genuinely won by a hurdle. She’s very, very good and is different gravy over a hurdle.”

Bred by Aidan Aherne, the exciting daughter of Westerner is owned by Mrs Carmel Ennis and Ms Bernadette Leigh.
