Winnable Gives Justify Saturday Stakes Double
Making her third career start, Winnable (3f Justify x Mischievousmaximus, by Curlin) registered her first stakes success in Saturday’s Valley of the Vapors Stakes.
The one-mile dirt race at Oaklawn Park saw Winnable break from the outside gate before settling in the rear of the tightly packed field. Racing down the backstretch, she moved closer to the leader as that one set easy fractions. It turned into a battle of the co-favorites late as Winnable went after Neom Beach in the stretch.
Winnable continued to make up steady ground with every stride toward the wire and the short stretch saw her get up just in time to win by a head with Practical Joke’s Tx Women For Arts in third.
Trained by Kenny McPeek for owner-breeder Stoneleigh Farm, Winnable has won two of her three starts with a second-place finish in the Listed Bourbonette Oaks last out to round out those runs.
Winnable is the first foal out of a Curlin full sister to three-time Grade I winner Exaggerator. The duo is out of the stakes-placed Dawn Raid, who has produced four winners from six to race and is the granddam of the stakes-placed Shea D World.
Dawn Raid is one of four stakes performers out of her own multiple stakes placed dam, who also produced multiple Grade III winner Embur’s Song and stakes winner Ten Flat.
Mischievousmaximus foaled a full brother to Winnable on March 27 of this year.
This was the second stakes winner on Saturday for Justify, who registered his first Japanese stakes winner when Yuttiham won the Oasis Stakes earlier in the day.
