Wolf Hill Stakes Win for Nothing Better
Nothing Better (7g Munnings x One True Love, by Duke of Marmalade) scored his 11th career victory on Saturday with a win in the Wolf Hill Stakes at Monmouth Park.
The Jorge Duarte Jr. trainee stalked the pace early in the 5 ½ furlong turf stakes race from a few paths off the rail. Going around the turn, he was three wide to put himself in perfect striking distance for the stretch run.
The gelding started a serious run as the field flashed past the furlong marker and closed strongly to win by three-quarters of a length in the end.
From his 28 starts, the Colts Neck Stables runner has finished in the top three 19 times for $761,382 in earnings with two straight stakes victories in 2024.
Nothing Better was bred by Don Alberto out of One True Love, a half-sister to the Grade I winner Folk Opera. Folk Opera is the granddam of Hong Kong Horse of the Year Romantic Warrior and Grade I winner Mr. Bailetti.
Munnings’ eight stakes winners this year is sixth best among North American sires with his 18 stakes performers nineth best in the group.
