Wootton Bassett Colt One To Watch After Impressive Debut Success
Racing over seven furlongs, the Brian Meehan-trained colt made all under Martin Dwyer and began to draw clear from two furlongs out. Running on well, he scored by four lengths with minimum fuss.
Speaking after the race, the winning trainer said, “Akmaam is a lovely colt and has always been a favourite at home. He's a big boy and very much a three-year-old in the making. My instinct would tell me that we go softly for a while and look at maybe one more run this year, but we'll speak to the owners and get some more feedback from Martin as well.”
Owned by Hamdan Al Maktoum and bred by Skymarc Farm, Akmaam sold for €120,000 as a foal and 150,000gns as a yearling. The exciting colt is out of the unraced Galileo mare Misty Night, herself a half-sister to three black-type horses, including Listed winner Troizilet (Wootton Bassett).
Akmaam joins a growing list of smart prospects by recent Coolmore recruit Wootton Bassett, whose current juveniles also include unbeaten Listed winner Chindit and unbeaten TDN Rising Star Midlife Crisis. His current three-year-old crop has already yielded eight Stakes winners, while the four-year-old Audarya became his second top-flight winner when taking the Group 1 Prix Jean Romanet last month.
