Unquestionable (Wootton Bassett) Wins His Maiden At The Curragh

Wootton Bassett Colt Shows Class In Curragh Maiden

Unquestionable (2c Wootton Bassett - Strawberry Lace, by Sea The Stars) confirmed himself a leading Coventry Stakes contender when drawing clear in Saturday’s six furlong maiden at the Curragh.

The son of Wootton Bassett is evidently held in high regard by Aidan O’Brien, having debuted in a five furlong Listed race earlier this month, in which he finished third to His Majesty (No Nay Never). Partnered by Ryan Moore on his second start, he made all of the running and was pushed along when challenged after the two furlong marker. Quickening clear inside the final furlong, he was pushed out to score by four and a quarter lengths, with newcomer Temple Of Hera (Magna Grecia) finishing a promising third.

“We're delighted with him,” O’Brien said after the race. “We felt he'd appreciate the step up, it was big ask to throw him in over five first time in a Stakes race, he's going to get even further than this probably. Ryan was very happy with him. He went to the line very strong and looks like a Coventry horse.”

Unquestionable sold for €340,000 as a yearling and is now owned by Al Shaqab Racing, Coolmore and Westerberg. The son of Wootton Bassett was bred by C Porin and the Vitse family.
