Wootton Bassett Colt Shows Rivals Clean Pair Of Heels
American Flag (2c Wootton Bassett - Tres Americanqueen, by American Post) proved a class above his rivals when skipping clear in Wednesday’s Class 2 contest at Saint-Cloud.
The Yann Barberot-trained colt showed promise on last month’s debut, when finishing second and drawing nine lengths clear of the field. The bay faced three previous winners on his second start, with Gregory Benoist riding him to chase the leader and asking him to quicken on the turn for home. Leading from two furlongs out, he was ridden clear a furlong later and needed little encouragement to lead by six lengths on the line.
A step up in class may now be on the cards for the Malcolm Parrish-owned winner, who was bred by Chevotel De La Hauquerie.
