Wootton Bassett Colt Wins By Impressive Margin
The Mark Johnston-trained Naamoos (2c Wootton Bassett - Praise Dancing, by Blame) could not have been more impressive when winning Tuesday’s Novice Stakes at Beverley.
Second on debut earlier in the month, the Shaikh Nasser Al Khalifa-owned colt was sent off favourite for the seven and a half furlong contest. Joe Fanning rode the bay to track the leaders and soon led after asking his mount to quicken two furlongs from home. Racing clear, he won by all of 17 lengths.
A €115,000 yearling purchase by Oliver St Lawrence, Naamoos holds an entry in the Listed Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar next month. The son of Wootton Bassett was bred by Haras De Bourgeauville and is a full-brother to fellow two-year-old winner Qurtaj.
