Wootton Bassett Filly Returns With A Listed Win
Friday saw the highly-regarded Quickstep (3f Wootton Bassett - Dance Toupie, by Dansili) make a winning return to action in the Listed Prix Coronation at Saint-Cloud.
Successful on her sole juvenile start, the Andre Fabre-trained filly finished fourth in a Group 3 on her three-year-old return despite having suffered a nightmare trip. She had two subsequent Group winners behind her when before winning a conditions race at Longchamp next time out, but had to overcome a significant absence on Friday.
Ridden patiently by Mickael Barzalona, the Godolphin-owned bay was shaken up two furlongs from home and ran on well to lead from 150 yards out. She kept on well to deny the favourite by a short neck, with the pair drawing two and a half lengths clear of the third.
Representing Godolphin, Louise Benard later said, “We came here today with the ambition of seeing her run a good race after such a lengthy break. We liked what we saw and she deserved it after being so unlucky in running this spring. This allows us to have a look at the programme and formulate a new plan for her.”
Bred by Mathieu Daguzan-Garros, Quickstep was bought by Stroud Coleman Bloodstock as a yearling for 350,000gns. The daughter of Wootton Bassett is a full-sister to Group 3 runner-up Dave (Wootton Bassett).
