Zoffany Colt Joins Illustrious Honour Roll With Maiden Win

Big City (2c Zoffany - Anipa, by Sea The Stars) stayed on well to win the MansionBet Novice Stakes at Nottingham on Thursday, a race previously won by Group 1 winner Blue Point, Superlative Stakes third Great Prospector and Prix Morny third True Mason.

Racing over six furlongs, as he had on debut last month, the Godolphin-owned colt encountered heavy ground for the first time at Nottingham. He chased the leaders under Adam Kirby and was ridden to lead approaching the final furlong, staying on well to hold off Maysong by three parts of a length.

The Saeed bin Suroor-trained winner was bred by Newsells Park Stud, who sold him to Stroud Coleman for 80,000gns at Tattersalls as a yearling. The son of Zoffany is the first foal out of Cheshire Oaks heroine Anipa, who was bought carrying Big City for 450,000gns. Her siblings include Grade 1 winner Ave (Danehill Dancer) and Group 3 performer Dubawi Phantom.
