Champion sire Giant’s Causeway posted a new Grade I winner when progressive colt Brody’s Cause (2c Giant’s Causeway x Sweet Breanna, by Sahm) captured the $500,000 Claiborne Breeders Futurity Stakes at Keeneland on Saturday.
The Dale Romans trained colt surprised with a sizzling late burst to zoom home from near last and win the 1 and 1/16th mile contest by a length, taking his overall record to two wins from three starts.
“He was awesome,” said winning jockey Corey Lanerie.
“Dale [Romans] told me in the paddock every time he does something, second time he does it, he’s always better. I watched his race the other day when he won and he looked pretty impressive to me there. So if he got any better today, I thought I had a good shot.
“What a professional he was. Never even blinked an eye about the dirt. He never even thought about backing out of it. I think the sky is the limit for him. Just the way he does things, he does it so easy.”
A $350,000 Keeneland September purchase, Brody’s Cause runs for Albaugh Family Stable and is the first stakes-winner for stakes-placed Sweet Breanna, a daughter of Grade II winner Sweet Roberta, who was second in a Grade I Breeders Cup Juvenile Fillies.
Brody’s Cause is the 157th stakes-winner for champion sire Giant’s Causeway.
