Talented mare Lady Sabelia (5m Majestic Warrior x Terra Maria, by Citidancer) had a productive year in 2014 winning four of five starts and kicked off 2015 with another stylish victory in the $100,000 What a Summer Stakes at Laurel.
Prepared by Robin Graham, Lady Sabelia settled off the pace and charged to the line to win the six furlong sprint by a length and a half.
“She is a very nice mare, but we had to give her quite a bit of time off when she was younger–about six to eight months for her shins and recently she has missed a few starts because of an eye problem. That is why she only raced [five] times last year,” Graham revealed.
“She always runs well and I never have to give the jockey any instructions. If there is speed she can wait and if there’s not she can go.”
Lady Sabelia is expected to target the Grade II Barbara Fritchie Handicap at Laurel on February 14 and has the ultra-consistent record of seven wins and five placings from 13 starts earning $338,465 in prizemoney.
A homebred for Mrs Frank Wright, Lady Sabelia is a half-sister to stakes-placed Jen’s Revenge being one of five winners from Terra Maria.
