Exciting prospect The Lumber Guy (3c Grand Slam x Boltono, by Unbridled’s Song) scored a highly impressive win in the $76,500 Miracle Wood Stakes at Laurel on the weekend.
A nine length winner on debut at Aqueduct on January 28, the Michael Hushion trained colt ran right up to that form in this tougher assignment despite a minor stumble when leaving the gates.
He quickly recovered and shot through to lead before surging right away in the run to the line to win the seven furlong contest by four and a quarter lengths.
“He came out of the gate and he bobbled a little bit,” revealed winning rider Julian Pimentel.
“Right away, he took off. I tried to slow him down as best I could. Around the turn he relaxed for me and then, when he felt that horse [Brimstone Island] come to him, he took off again. He looks like a nice horse. He did that very easily. It was impressive.”
The Lumber Guy is a half-brother to stakes-winners Magical Solution and Bold Deed being from the very good producer Boltono.
He is the 67th stakes-winner worldwide for Grand Slam, a prolific source of winners.
