Japanese Grade One Winner for Giant

Giant's Causeway conformation

Champion sire Giant’s Causeway added a new Grade I winner to his tally when Eishin Apollon (4h Giant’s Causeway x Silk and Scarlet, by Sadler’s Wells) scored a narrow victory in the Grade I Mile Championship at Kyoto in Japan on Sunday.

An American bred entire trained by Masahiro Matsunaga, Eishin Apollon was a last start winner of the Grade III Fuji Stakes and carried that good form into this tougher assignment.

He won the 1600 metre contest by a neck over Japanese bred Fifth Petal with UK Grade I winner Sahpresa in third place, his overall record now four wins and four placings from 14 starts.

Eishin Apollon is the first stakes-winner for the Grade II winning Sadler’s Wells mare Silk and Scarlet, whose dam is a half-sister to French Grade I winner and sire Sanglamore.
