Champion sire Giant’s Causeway picked straight up where he left off at the close of 2014, adding a new stakes-winner to his tally when lightly raced Night Prowler (3g Giant’s Causeway x Mary’s Follies, by More Than Ready) gave notice of better things to come when taking out the Grade III Dania Beach Stakes at Gulfstream.
Having just his fourth start, the Chad Brown trained gelding settled back in the field from a wide gate and stormed home over the final furlong to snatch a half length win in the seven and a half furlong contest.
A homebred for Paul Pompa Jr, Night Prowler has two wins and two thirds from just four starts with prizemoney of $118,375.
“I‘m real proud of this horse,” said Chad Brown.
“He was real unlucky last time. We ran two horses in that race and luckily the other barn mate of his won the race for me. To be fair, this horse actually ran the better race.
“He likes to have something to run at. He likes to have a little pace in front of him. I think he’s about a miler, I think that’s his distance. We can run him a touch shorter and maybe just a shade longer but I think a mile will prove to be his best trip.”
Night Prowler is the first winner for Grade II winner Mary’s Follies and is the 151st stakes-winner for Giant’s Causeway.
