Improving filly Book Review (3f Giant’s Causeway x Clever Babe, by Distorted Humor) scored a lucrative win in the $400,000 Charles Town Oaks at the weekend.
Trained by Chad Brown, Book Review turned in a career best performance to win the seven furlong contest by a length and three-quarters.
Backed into favouritism after having no luck when slowly away and out of a place in the Grade I Test Stakes at her last start, Book Review was again slow to get away, but kept finding the line to forge clear at the finish and win with some authority.
“She usually doesn’t break that well,” said winning rider Javier Castellano.
“This time she broke a lot better than normal, but still not good enough to be real close going into the first turn. I saved enough ground on the first turn to be able to go wide and make the run around the second. She just kept giving tonight.”
A homebred for Gary and Mary West Stables, Book Review has won three races and placed three times from seven starts earning $353,455 in prizemoney.
She is the 115th stakes-winner for champion sire Giant’s Causeway and is from Clever Babe, a half-sister by Distorted Humor to Grade I winner Irish Smoke.
