Coolmore, Castlehyde & Associated Stud Farms Requirements for the 2026 Breeding Season
Mares Boarding at Coolmore/Castlehyde Stud
No mare can board at Coolmore/Castlehyde Stud without the following requirements:
I. All Arrivals & Departures must be notified with the Stud Office at least 24hrs beforehand. Mares that arrive after 12 midday WILL NOT be checked by the vet until the following day. Mares will not be permitted to leave the farm until they have gone “out of season”. All mares must have a signed contract and completed mare information sheet on file.
II. Negative Certificates, copy of markings and a copy of the vaccination pages must be emailed to the Stud Office before the planned arrival to ensure all the relevant paperwork is correct.
III. Negative Certificates required must be taken on or after the 01/01/26 by a recognised Irish or UK Laboratory.
PCR – Nasopharyngeal swab for EHV 1 – 4
Any mare coming from outside of Ireland will require a negative swab prior to their arrival on the Farm. In addition, any animal arriving from a TRAINING YARD (including Ireland) and from a FRENCH STUD will require this swab and a negative swab for STRANGLES. Also, any Filly out of training (from France only) will require 2 x negative EHV 1-4 swabs taken 7 days apart.
All the above swabs MUST be dated with 14 days of arrival on the farm.
C.E.M Swab
A negative certificate from an Irish or UK Laboratory, and from their place of origin if arriving from outside Ireland or the UK (For foreign mares, the Irish Tests can be taken upon arrival to the farm) for a clitoral swab for; a) Pseudomonas, b) Klebsiella, c) C.E.M. and an endometrial swab (cervical swab) taken during an oestrus period prior to covering. All mares arriving from the USA require two negative clitoral swabs (fossa & sinuses) taken on or after 01/01/26, and at least 7 days apart.
EIA (Coggins or Elisa) and EVA Blood
A negative certificate from an Irish or UK Laboratory, and from their place of origin if arriving from outside Ireland or the UK (For foreign mares, the Irish Tests can be taken upon arrival to the farm). Mares with a positive EVA blood result require 2 blood tests taken at least 14 days apart, showing a stable or declining titre.
Vaccinations
All pregnant mares must have a minimum of 3 Virus-Abortion vaccinations (5th, 7th & 9th month of pregnancy) recorded in their passport. Mares without these vaccinations will not be allowed onto the farm until after they have foaled. We also advise pregnant mares to be vaccinated with Rotavirus.
DOURINE
Mares arriving from Italy and mares that have been in Italy since 1st January 2012 require a negative blood test for Dourine taken a minimum of 14 days after arrival in Ireland.
IV. Farm Policy – All mares will be vaccinated with Flu & Tetanus and EHV 1–4 on arrival at the Stud, along with a CEM Swab being taken. For mares arriving from outside of Ireland or the UK we will also take an EVA and EIA Blood, if the certs are not from an Irish or UK Lab.
V. Mares that arrive to Coolmore/Castlehyde Stud with a foal at foot will not have their foals registered with Weatherby’s IRE by the farm unless we are requested to do so. For Foreign Mares that foal on the farms, these foals will be registered with Weatherbys IRE unless instructed otherwise.

Walk In Mares Visiting Coolmore/Castlehyde Stud
No mare will be covered in 2026 without ALL of the following:
I. A signed contract and completed mare information sheet on file.
II. Markings – mare’s passport or a copy of it must accompany the mare to the covering shed or lodged with the Stud Office prior to arrival.
III. Negative Certificates must be lodged with the Stud Office prior to arrival or brought to the covering shed at the time of covering. NO MARE will be covered without the relevant certs.
IV. Negative Certificates required are as follows. They must be taken on or after the 01/01/26 by a recognised Irish or UK Laboratory. Certificates from outside Ireland or the UK WILL NOT be accepted for covering unless accompanied by Irish/UK certs.
C.E.M Swab
A negative certificate from an Irish or UK Laboratory, and from their place of origin if arriving from outside Ireland or the UK for a clitoral swab for; a) Pseudomonas, b) Klebsiella, c) C.E.M. It is farm policy that every mare will have a C.E.M. swab taken upon arrival to the covering shed. All mares arriving from the USA require two negative clitoral swabs (fossa & sinuses) taken on or after 01/01/26, and at least 7 days apart.

A negative swab is required for all mares that arrive directly to the covering shed at the Stud from OUTSIDE of Ireland. This does not apply to mares that will Walk In to the covering shed from studs within Ireland.
V. Mares residing at Coolmore Stud will be given priority for covering.
VI. Farm Policy – Mares switching stallions during the season will require a new set of tests to be done before the mare is covered.
