About Us

History
Coolmore Stud is owned and run by the Magnier family, who, originally from Fermoy, Co. Cork, have been involved in the stallion business since the 1850s.
Its headquarters in Fethard, Co. Tipperary, were developed in the 1970s in partnership with pools magnate Robert Sangster and John Magnier’s late father-in-law, the legendary trainer Vincent O’Brien. Together, they set out to create a world-class stallion operation, a vision that reshaped the landscape of the international bloodstock industry.

A History of Standing Champion Sires
In 1982, Be My Guest, a son of Northern Dancer, became Coolmore’s first Champion Sire, and a remarkable line of titleholders followed, including Caerleon, Sadler’s Wells, Danehill, Danehill Dancer and Galileo, each leaving a lasting mark on the breed.
Sadler’s Wells secured a record 14 sires’ championships, surpassing Highflyer’s 1798 record, and his Derby-winning son Galileo went on to claim 12 championships and become the first stallion ever to sire 100 Group 1 winners.

Home of Champions
From 1990 to 2020, without interruption, the Champion Sire in Britain & Ireland stood at Coolmore, cementing its reputation as the ‘Home of Champions’.

Legendary Stallions
The world-renowned training establishment at Ballydoyle has long been central to the Coolmore operation, yielding legendary stallions such as Sadler’s Wells and Galileo.
Founded by Vincent O’Brien – who produced countless top-class horses over four decades – Ballydoyle is now under the stewardship of his unrelated namesake, Aidan O’Brien, whose phenomenal global achievements continue the legacy.

Exciting Times Ahead
Coolmore’s roster for 2026 includes four Epsom Derby winners and has been bolstered by three exciting new prospects in the shape of Delacroix, Camille Pissarro, and Henri Matisse.
These outstanding racehorses combine exceptional talent, outstanding physicals and impeccable pedigrees. Exciting times lie ahead!
