$1.4Million Wootton Bassett Colt

Wootton Bassett finished as the leading first season sire at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale with 22 yearlings averaging $391,364 and his star performer was the crackerjack colt from Champion 3YO Filly Sunlight that sold for $1.4million.

He is the second foal of triple Group I winning Zoustar mare Sunlight, who was bought by Tom Magnier for $4.2million at the 2020 Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale. Her first foal, a colt by Justify also made $1.4million at Magic Millions last year.

The colt was bought by Paul Moroney Bloodstock / C Bruggeman for an undisclosed client.

“It’s one of the best bred colts in the sale and it’s a fantastic family. Everyone wants it. The sire is proven in Europe and is doing well down here already,” said Moroney.

“If he can get out there and compete like the rest of the family has, well, he’s a great chance [of becoming a stallion].

“I could see him being an autumn two-year-old, without any doubt. He’s got a lot of power behind him. The dream is to have them back here running at this time of the year. He’s got all the credentials that he could be back here in 12 months’ time.”

Sunlight has a filly to follow by Home Affairs and is back in foal to Justify.

Wootton Bassett also had a big result with the Coolmore consigned colt from Group II winning Pierro mare Tulip fetching $900,000 when bought by Resolute Racing, while China Horse Club / Newgate / Go Bloodstock / Trilogy snapped up the Bhima Thoroughbreds consigned colt from Southbank for $625,000.
