1million Saxon Warrior Filly Headed to Australia
Currently finishing his fourth season in Australia, exciting young sire Saxon Warrior has made a great impression in the Northern Hemisphere with his first crop of 2YO's and his Group I placed filly Gan Teorainn (2f Saxon Warrior x Dance Troupe, by Rainbow Quest) is set to do her future racing in Australia after being bought for 1million guineas at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale.
Consigned by Boherguy Stud, Gan Teorainn was trained by Jim Bolger and had seven starts this year, five of them in Group races.
She was second in the Group I Longchamp Prix Marcel Boussac, Group III Curragh Park Stakes and was also fourth in the Group I Criterium de Saint-Cloud against the colts at her final start of the year.
Geo Terorainn was purchased by BBA Ireland for the same partnership group involving Yulong that also bought 5.4million sale-topper Alcohol Free with both mares destined to race in Australia next year.
BBA Ireland’s Michael Donohoe has been the top purchaser at the sale so far securing 35 mares for 14,494,000 guineas, many of them for Yulong and partners.
“Gan Teorainn is going to Australia as well. She’s a big 2-year-old and what she did this year is extraordinary for a big filly. Again, she vetted exceptionally well and we’ll give her a little bit of time to acclimatise in Australia,” Donohoe told TDN.
“We’ll decide on a trainer after that and she’s for the same syndicate of people who bought Alcohol Free.
“Saxon Warrior has the makings of becoming a top-class Classic-type sire. He had a lot of maiden winners towards the back end of the season and they are hard to win. She is going to be a lovely miler, maybe even a mile-and-a-quarter filly in time, and she has a lovely pedigree as well so she should make a broodmare. “
A homebred for Ennistown Stud , Gan Teorainn is a half-sister to Group III winner Noble Boy and stakes-placed Jellicle Ball and Aquila, from a family featuring plenty of staying stakes-winners so longer trips should hold no fears.
She is one of 22 first crop winners for Saxon Warrior that include three stakes-winners headed by his Group I Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf winner Victoria Road.
Saxon Warrior stands in Ireland next year at a fee of €35,000 and is priced attractively in Australia at $19,250.
