$500,000 for Justify Colt

Demand for the progeny of Triple Crown winner Justify was strong at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale with eight yearlings selling at an average $241,250 with his top seller a cracking colt from Kitty Leroy that made $500,000 on Monday.

The colt was a big pinhook winner having been bought by Kevan Wacey of Gleneagles Stud as a weanling from the Fairhill Farm draft for $105,000 at the Inglis Australian Weanling Sale last year and then re-offered by Shadow Hill Thoroughbreds fetching $500,000 to the bid of Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott / Kestrel Thoroughbreds.

Waterhouse and Bott train Justify’s outstanding two year-old colt Storm Boy, who is a hot favourite for the Golden Slipper.

“We have obviously had very good success with Justify, mainly with Storm Boy, and this guy was a cracker,” said stable representative Claudia Miller, who signed alongside Kestrel Thoroughbreds’ Bruce Slade.

“He’s a really good mover, great bone and from a very fast family, so let’s hope we can do the same with him as we’re doing with Storm Boy.”

This athletic bay colt was bred by Reg Kemister and is from winning I Am Invincible mare Kitty Leroy, a three-quarter sister-in-blood to Group III winning sprinter Super One.

Kitty Leroy was back at Coolmore last spring to visit Acrobat.
