$950,000 American Pharoah Colt at Saratoga

The progeny of Triple Crown hero American Pharoah proved a hot commodity at the 2019 Saratoga Yearling Sale this week with six of his youngsters selling for up to $950,000.

The star of the show for American Pharoah was a stunning colt from stakes-winner Bon Jovi Girl that made $950,000 for St George Sales when secured by MV Magnier.

A half-brother to Grade III winner You’re to Blame, his success in the ring delighted Archie St George, who consigned the colt on behalf of his breeder Bryant Prentice.

“We had a lot of interest, he was a very nice horse and he was very well received,” said St George. “Congratulations to Mr. Prentice and his whole team. I’d like to thank Coolmore and everyone else who was interested in him. We’ve had him on the farm since November and he’s a really special horse.”

American Pharoah has made an exciting start to his stud career with seven first crop winners in Europe and North America including French Group III winner Maven.

“It’s very gratifying to see how the American Pharoahs are doing,” said Coolmore’s Adrian Wallace.

“And it’s great to see how well they are running on dirt and turf. The best is hopefully yet to come. But if you had told us by the end of July, beginning of August, that he already would have had seven winners and a few stakes horses here and in Europe, I think it’s fair to say it’s very gratifying for the breeders who bred to him and for us who stand him.

“Obviously we supported him heavily ourselves, but we’re looking to hopefully pick up a few more both here and in September.”

Other big results for American Pharoah at Saratoga were $800,000 for a colt from Super Majesty and $650,000 for a filly from Visual Mind.
