Al Qudra (No Nay Never) Wins The Listed Pat Eddery Stakes

Breeders Cup In Mind For Stylish Stakes Winner By No Nay Never

Al Qudra (2c No Nay Never – Piece Of Paradise, by Holy Roman Emperor) became No Nay Never’s second juvenile Stakes winner in as many days when winning the Listed Pat Eddery Stakes in good style at Ascot.

Charlie Appleby’s charge was last seen finishing a length behind Rashabar (Holy Roman Emperor) in the Group 2 Coventry Stakes and stepped up to seven furlongs for the first time on Saturday. Ridden to make all by William Buick, he was travelling best of the field with two furlongs left to race and drew clear inside the final furlong. He went on to score by two and a quarter lengths, with another length and a half back to the favourite in third.

Appleby took the 2022 running with subsequent Group 2 winner and Grade 1 runner-up Naval Power, while last year went to multiple Group 1 winner Rosallion, with multiple Group scorer Chindit (Wootton Bassett) another previous winner.

On the latest winner, Appleby said, “I think Al Qudra might make up into a Breeders' Cup horse as he ticks a lot of boxes for it. Take nothing away from what we've beaten, but he's just a good, solid horse.”

Al Qudra was bought by owners Godolphin at the Tattersalls Book 1 October Yearling Sale for 425,000gns. The son of No Nay Never is the first foal bred by Rockfield Farm out of the Listed-winning Holy Roman Emperor mare Piece Of Paradise.
