Fangirl Dazzles in G1 King Charles
Another super successful graduate of Coolmore, the Ingham family owned Fangirl scored the biggest win of her career on Saturday when downing the colours of outstanding miler Mr Brightside to win the inaugural $5million Group I ATC King Charles Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on Saturday and her dam Little Surfer Girl has a stunning colt by Home Affairs at her side this spring.
Trained by Chris Waller, five year-old mare Fangirl is in career best form with this commanding two and a half length victory her third at the elite level in a career that has produced seven wins and seven placings from 21 starts with prizemoney in excess of $7million.
Waller said that Fangirl is on track for the Cox Plate.
“They (the Ingham family) are racing purists, they cope with the quiet days, and they’ve been at the highest mountain. They never put any pressure on you, they just listen,” Waller said.
“That (the Cox Plate) was always the plan, to space her runs and get her to Melbourne as well. That will be tomorrow’s decision I guess, she was pretty dominant today.”
Fangirl was foaled and raised at Coolmore before being broken in and educated at the Jerry's Plains farm. She is the best of five winners from stakes-winning Encosta de Lago mare Little Surfer Girl, who has a yearling filly by Wootton Bassett and a colt (pictured below) by Home Affairs.
