American Theorem (American Pharoah) Wins The Gr.2 Triple Bend at Santa Anita

Group Double for American Pharoah

American Pharoah had a red letter day on Sunday with a new Group I winner in France followed by a new Group II winner in North America.

Above the Curve (3f American Pharoah x Fabulous, by Galileo) took out the Group I Prix Saint Alary and then American Theorem (5h American Pharoah x Mighty Renee, by Maria’s Mon) landed the Group II Triple Bend Stakes (7f) at Santa Anita.

Trained by George Papaprodromou for Kretz Racing. American Theorum has always shown above average ability and was Group I placed at two, but has had an interrupted career making iot hard for him to fulfil his potential.

He scored a tenacious nose win in the seven furlong sprint, his third win from 11 starts.

“I love when a plan comes together,” said winning rider Joe Bravo. “We really had high hopes for this horse, he had a couple of hiccups along the way, and [trainer George Papaprodromou] cut him back in distance. Look at him around the turn, it seemed like at any time he could jump on those horses and he did.”

The 29th stakes-winner for American Pharoah, American Theorum is a half-brother to Group III winner Mighty Caroline and stakes-winners Cyclogenesis and Renee’s Queen from good producer Mighty Renee.

American Pharoah is on the Australian roster for this spring at a fee of $49,500.
