More Star Mares Added to Coolmore Broodmare Band
$1.6million filly Paris Dior (3f Pierro x Entrancing, by Exceed and Excel) was not the only glamour mare purchased at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on Tuesday headed to Coolmore Australia with Tom Magnier also securing Piping Hot for $3million and Vangelic for $1.5million, both mares to be covered on the farm this spring.
Offered in the Newgate Consignment, Group I placed Group II winner Vangelic was the first mare to walk into the ring and was knocked down to Magnier as a breeding proposition having not raced since January.
Prepared throughout her career by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, the daughter of Golden Slipper winning sire Vancouver was a very smart two year-old that won on debut in January and was second to Away Game in the Group II ATC Percy Sykes.
She trained on to be Group I placed at three and four and her highlight win came in the Group II ATC Golden Pendant with her total earnings topping $1.4million.
Bought for $400,000 as a yearling from the Segenhoe draft at Magic Millions by her trainers, Vangelic has been a great investment for her ownership group.
“It’s a good pedigree, she was just a lovely physical – she was one of the nicest physicals we saw – and she was well-rated by all the team,” Tom Magnier said.
“She’s a mare that has a lot of quality, she’s very good looking, so she’d be an asset to any stallion.
“I suppose the way things are going for us at the moment, Justify is going very well, Wootton Bassett obviously has the favourite for the two-year-old race at home, he’s going very well, Home Affairs has the best the mares in foal and (and we’ve got) Shinzo to come.”
Tom Magnier is obviously a fan of I Am Invincible thanks to the mighty Home Affairs and he could not resist the dam of dual Group I winner Coolangatta offered in foal to the champion sire.
Consigned by Milburn Creek on behalf of UK owned Highclere Stud, More Than Ready (USA) mare Piping Hot was knocked down for $3million.
Turning 10 this year, Piping Hot is a half-sister to Group I MRC Blue Diamond Stakes winner Reaan from Group II winner Ribe and her three yearlings sold at auction to date have sold for a combined total just over $1million.
With Coolangatta primed for a big performance at Royal Ascot, Piping Hot is a broodmare on the rise.
"She's in-foal to I Am Invincible, Coolangatta’s a champion and she’s a gorgeous looking type, so we’re delighted to get her," said Magnier, with a decision to be made on her partner this spring to be made in due course.
