Nick Williams Purchases American Pharoah Colt

Leading Victorian owner Nick Williams has been absent from buyer lists at Australian yearling sales for a number of years, preferring to concentrate on sourcing Group I Cups talent through the purchase of horses from the Northern Hemisphere, but he was tempted back into action at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale on Sunday by an American Pharoah colt.

Williams and his father Lloyd enjoyed much success with a horse they purchased from the Mill Park draft at the Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in 2009 called Fawkner.

He won over $3.8million with highlight wins including the 2013 Caulfield Cup, so it only made sense that they would return again to a vendor that had previously delivered such success.

Consigned by Mill Park, the American Pharoah colt from Elegant Eagle was snapped up by Nick Williams for $180,000 and is a half-brother to Group I winner Go Indy Go, Group III winner Essay Raider and stakes-placed Battle Brewing.

By champion sire Zabeel, Elegant Eagle is a full sister to the dam of Caulfield Cup winner Southern Speed, so its’s a family packed with class.

“We were so happy to sell to Nick Williams,” said Chris Watson of Mill Park.

“He certainly understands a lovely staying family like that family.”
