Second Stakes-Winner for Churchill
Exciting colt Vadeni (2c Churchill x Vaderana, by Monsun) became the first stakes-winning colt for Galileo’s champion son Churchill when winning the Listed Criterium du Fonds Européen de l’Elevage (1600m) at Deauville on Saturday.
A homebred for the Aga Khan, Vadeni broke his maiden on debut last month and stepped straight into Black Type company by trainer Jean-Claud Roget, he showed his class.
Vadeni extended over the final furlong to surge away from Godolphin runner Officer of state to win by two lengths as a short priced favourite.
Vadeni is a half-brother to stakes-placed horses and is the best of five winners from winning Monsun mare Vaderana, a half-sister to Group winners Vadamar and The Pentagon from Group I winner Vadawina.
Standing in Australia this spring at a fee of $22,000, Churchill is building an impressive record with 14 first crop winners in Europe and Vadeni is his second stakes-winner joining the smart filly Ladies Church and Group III placed colt Unconquerable.
Churchill will have his first Australian runners this season.
