Sire Sons Of Scat Daddy Make Presence Felt At Goffs
A full-brother to Group 2 Superlative Stakes winner Mystery Power (No Nay Never) continued the fairytale story of his dam Gems when selling for €360,000 at Goffs on Wednesday.
Bought for €5,500, Gems has produced two black-type performers and the highly-rated nine-time winner Fayez (Zoffany) for breeders Padraig and Siobhan O'Rahilly, while her yearling colt by Australia sold for €525,000 in October. Her latest offering, a son of No Nay Never consigned by Whitehall Stud, was unsurprisingly popular and was knocked down to Ciaran Conroy’s Glenvale Stud, who also pinhooked the Australia colt.
Another well-bred colt offered on the day was a Camelot half-brother to the brilliant, but ill-fated, Sea Of Class. Consigned by Castletown Stud, the bay was one of the youngest foals catalogued, with a May 31st birthday. MV Magnier was declared his new owner with a winning bid of €280,000.
Caravaggio’s strong start in the sales ring continued on Tuesday when a grey colt by the top-class sprinter sold for €240,000 to Brendan Holland’s Grove Stud. A grandson of Falmouth Stakes heroine Music Show, the first crop foal was offered by the Castlebridge Consignment on behalf of breeders Ennistown Stud.
On his morning purchase, Holland commented, “He’s a good one. We’ll mind him and have him back for resale next year. Caravaggio is a horse that will have a lot of appeal and his foals are good. They are good walkers with plenty of substance and length. This colt was one of the best foals here today.”
Gleneagles has enjoyed a tremendous start with his two-year-olds and has since seen this reflected in the sales ring. Shrewd pinhookers Camas Park went to €155,000 for Airlie Stud’s Gleneagles half-brother to top two-year-old Intense Focus (Giant’s Causeway) and to the dam of champion two-year-old filly Skitter Skatter (Scat Daddy). The Storm Cat line has clearly worked well with the dam Daneleta (Danehill) and with Gleneagles being out of a full-sister to the great Giant’s Causeway (Storm Cat), the bay colt is bred to be special.
Camas Park also put their faith in first crop stallion Churchill, going to €140,000 for the Castlebridge-consigned colt out of Queen Mary Stakes third Hairy Rocket. Three colts by the champion two-year-old and dual Guineas winner were offered on the day and all three sold for six-figure sums. A chestnut offered by Oak Lodge and Springfield Stud was knocked down for €135,000, while a half-brother to dual Group 3 winner Onenightidreamed (Footstepsinthesand) was sold for €125,000 to Hamish Macauley.
Fastnet Rock also celebrated a six-figure sale when the filly offered by Stanley Lodge sold for €115,000 to Deepark and Suzanne Roberts. The first foal out of Stakes performer Pure Art, the bay comes from the family of champion three-year-old filly Pure Grain.
