Spicy Martini Latest Australian Stakes Winner for Justify

Spicy Martini (3f Justify x Extra Olives, by Redoute's Choice) stayed undefeated for her sire in Australia on Saturday with a victory in the Listed Mode Stakes over six furlongs.

Making her second start in the Doomben race, Spicy Martini collared the leader around the turn and entered a duel from there. Entering the final furlong, she had the upper hand and pulled away to win by nearly two lengths.

Trained by Toby Edmonds and Stephen McLean, the filly has earned AU$114,000 in her first two starts.

“She’s got a lot of upside and is still quite fine, so she will mature and grow and will be a much better four-year-old. She’ll run 1400m in time and I think the Tatts Tiara (G1, next year) will be a lovely race for her,” Edmonds said.

The Coolmore-bred is the first stakes-winner among four winners from stakes-placed Redoute’s Choice mare Extra Olives. That mare’s granddam is Champion Filly Alinghi, a four-time Group I winner.

Coolmore sold a weanling half-brother to Spicy Martini by Home Affairs at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale for $260,000 to Fernrigg Farm and they will re-offer the colt at Magic Millions 2025 as Lot 382. Her dam foaled a filly by Home Affairs this year.

Spicy Martini is worldwide stakes winner number 38 for Justify, who is covering mares on Southern Hemisphere time this fall.
