Sword Point Impresses at Rosehill
Champion trainer Chris Waller might be at the Gold Coast with a big team of horses but he still had plenty of interesting runners at Rosehill including progressive three year-old Sword Point (3c American Pharoah x Jazz Song, by Fastnet Rock), who won with a leg in the air.
Sword Point was impressive when bolting in at Canterbury two starts back and then was a close last start second.
Stepped up to 2000m for this Benchmark 78 assignment against older rivals, he led all the way for Kathy O’Hara and cruised away at the finish to win by four and a quarter lengths.
“He still learning and progressing with each race,” said stable representative Jack Pilkington.
“He’ll get over even further and looks a Derby style of horse for the autumn.”
A $750,000 Magic Millions purchase from the Coolmore draft for Waller Racing/Mulcaster Bloodstock, Sword Point has two wins and a second from six starts and runs for a big group of clients including Coolmore and Sir Peter Vela.
Sword Point was bred by Morning Rise Stud and Coolmore and was raised at Coolmore before going through the breaking and pre-training program there after being sold as a yearling.
He is the second winner from Group III winning Fastnet Rock mare Jazz Song, a daughter of Group I winner Absolut Glam.
After missing the previous season, Jazz Song was covered last spring by Wootton Bassett.
Sword Point looks like a bright prospect for American Pharoah, who has 12 entries for both Magic Millions and Inglis Classic.
