Best of Bordeaux is an exemplary product of one of the most successful sire lines in Australian history, the first three ancestors on his tail male line all being Champion Australian stallions. His sire Snitzel, still very much active at stud, is also proving to produce some superior sires.
His grandsire Redoute’s Choice, Nijinsky II and Try My Best via his damsire Last Tycoon, are members of the influential TORPENHOW family. Best of Bordeaux’ damsire High Chaparral is by Sadler’s Wells. A descendant of THONG, he is a brother to FAIRY KING, best represented by sons ENCOSTA DE LAGO, SHINKO KING and FALBRAV, the daughters of which have produced several stakes winners by Snitzel or his sons. Encosta de Lago’s sire descendants include NORTHERN METEOR, DEEP FIELD ZOUSTAR, RUBICK, MANHATTAN RAIN and NEEDS FURTHER. NUREYEV is a three-quarter brother to Sadler’s Wells and also has a great record when combined with Snitzel in a mating. Daughters by his sons including STRAVINSKY, ZILZAL, EL PRADO (and sons ARTIE SCHILLER, KITTEN’S JOY & MEDAGLIA D’ORO), POLISH PRECEDENT, SPINNING WORLD and PEINTRE CELEBRE appeal.
ZABEEL’s damsire is Nureyev (above) and he has produced 8 individual Group winners by Snitzel.
Apart from his son Zabeel, SIR TRISTRAM himself is a desirable element in mares for Best of Bordeaux, with Snitzel having produced Group winners from mares by HULA TOWN, MARAUDING, DALMACIA and OCTAGONAL in addition to mares carrying daughters of Sir Tristram. GROSVENOR, RESET, LONHRO, KAAPSTAD, SOVEREIGN RED, EL QAHIRA, MILITARY PLUME, SAVABEEL and DR GRACE are also appealing.

Duplication of Storm Bird (second damsire of Snitzel) has worked well for the sire, with G1 winners such as Trapeze Artist, Duais, In the Congo and Yearning carrying this pattern. Snitzel has also produced G1 winners out of mares by TIMBER COUNTRY (Sweet Idea), RUBITON (Redzel), SUCCESS EXPRESS (Shamus Award), FRAAR (Snitzerland), CHARGE FORWARD Estijaab) and GENERAL NEDIYM (I Am Excited, Ellsburg and Sizzling). Best of Bordeaux’ dam also looks compatible with these damsires.
