Son Of Australia Raids French Stakes Race

Lambourn (2c Australia – Gossamer Wings, by Scat Daddy) overcame a slow start to make it two from two in the Listed Criterium de l’Ouest at Craon on Saturday.

The Aidan O’Brien-trained colt shaped like a smart prospect when beating a previous winner on debut and enjoyed a form boost when the runner-up subsequently won. He was sent off favourite on Saturda, but gave supporters cause for concern when losing a couple of lengths at the start. Racing prominently soon after, he was ridden approaching the two furlong marker and led a furlong later. He kept on well to win by three parts of a length under Christophe Soumillon.

A Coolmore homebred, the son of Australia holds entries in three Group 2 races in the coming weeks.
