$300,000 Filly For Practical Joke at Fasig-Tipton California
Only an American Pharoah filly was able to top Practical Joke’s $300,000 offering at the Fasig-Tipton California Fall Yearlings and Horses of All Ages Sale on Tuesday after the filly took the lead 10 hips in.
Signed for by Brian Koriner on behalf of Jay Em Ess Stable, Barton Thoroughbreds offered their homebred filly out of Miss Lavinia. Miss Lavinia is the dam of four winners from six to race, led by Grade III-placed Arch Cat and the dam of multiple Grade I-placed Cassies Dreamer.
The pedigree is strong throughout with Miss Lavinia a half-sister to the Grade II Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner and Grade I-placed More Than Real, who is also the dam of stakes winner Miss Debutante. Another of Miss Lavinia’s half-sisters is the dam of Grade I Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Structor and Grade II-placed Always Carina.
The group is following in the footsteps of the yearling’s multiple stakes winning granddam Miss Seffens, who is one of four dams from four on the page to produce stakes performers.
A leading North American freshman sire this year, Practical Joke’s second crop has been in as high of demand as its first with the group led by a $750,000 colt and $575,000 filly with the 68 yearlings sold averaging $186,760 in 2021.
